MORNING TEA
RETURNING TO INDIA
An informal morning tea party was held in the Y.W.C.A. lecture room on Tuesday, in honour of Miss Jean Begg, national general secretary of the Y.W.C.A. of India, Burma, and Ceylon, who leaves on Wednesday on her return to India. The guests included members of the National Y.W.C.A. committees, the board of directors, and committee members of ,the Wellington Y.W.C.A.. and personal friends of Miss Begg.
The guest of honour was the recip-1 lent of many floral tributes. Mrs. R. Gardner, president of the Wellington Y.W.C.A.. expressed the appreciation of the Young Women's Christian Association throughout New Zealand of the splendid service rendered by Miss Begg and assured her of the contin- ; ued interest and good will of its members. She asked Miss Begg to convey greetings from the New Zealand Association to the members of the Y.W.C.A. of India, Burma, and Ceylon.
In a most interesting and informative talk Miss Begg gave a vivid pic-
ture of the work of the Y.W.C.A. in India, and spoke of the great contribution it was making to the development of the thinking womanhood of that country in their struggle for self-confidence and independence. She pointed out the peculiar opportunity of the Y.W.C.A. as an international organisation, for paving the way towards racial understanding and world peace.
Members of the . Y.W.C.A. of New Zealand conveyed their best wishes to Miss Begg and expressed their appreciation of the opportunity afforded them of bidding her farewell.
