EXPORTS REDUCED
INCREASE IN IMPORTS
The Customs figures for. the first j eight months of this year show a re- j duction in the value of exports andj an increase in the value of imports when comparison is made with the returns for 1937. The figures are given as follows: — Excess i sk n% i xs iqSB 44,913,000 36,783,000 8,130,000 1937 I'".. 51.382,000 36,579,000 14,803,000 The returns for the month of-August show an excess of imports over exports for this year as last, also for August, 1936, the returns being as follows:— Excess ' Exports. Au£. £ (N.Z.) £ (N.Z.) & (K.Z.) 1038 3,823,000 5,063,000 1,240,000 1937 ".. 4,458,000 0,008,000 1,550,000 193 C '.... 3,150,000 3,997,000 847,000 For the eight months period it will be noticed that the credit balance on trade for this year is £6,673,000 less than it was at the end of August, 1937, and £6,494,000 less than it was in 1936.
