TEMPERANCE WORK

BROOKLYN GATHERING

A meeting of the Brooklyn branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in the Baptist schoolroom recently, when Mrs. Reed presided over a large attendance.

Chain prayers were offered for the success of the licensing poll campaign now in progress. Mesdames Raine and Pearce were appointed delegates to the annual district convention to be held in Karori. The present district officers were nominated for re-elec-tion. A jumble sale in aid of Dominion Convention funds was arranged.

Mrs. Jordan read the following extract from an address by the Archbishop of Melbourne: "Most of the men who have done the greatest things for the Kingdom of God have been those who have ruled out the use of alcohol."

Mrs. Baudinet gave a very interesting talk on "How we won the franchise in New Zealand." She also enumerated the many laws passed for the moral and social welfare of women and children since women received the right to vote.

The Presbyterian ladies were hostesses at afternoon tea.
