'The .Department-of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner- for New Zealand, dated September 30, 1938: — Tallow.—Little more inquiry for spot at slightly better prices, but quotations nominally unchanged.
Hemp.—Manila: Market quiet; early this week affected owing to the political situation and in the absence of offers from origin. Good demand since; closing values "X". grade, £20 ss.
Sisal.—Market firmer, good demand and good business has been done. No I afloat sold £17, £^0, easier at tha close; October-December shipment value £17 15s.
Now Zealand. —Little inquiry for fair, but no business reported in the absence of offers.
Eggs;— Market quiet. English national mark, mediums,; standards, and specials, 15s, 20s 6d; English ordinary pack, 15-15Jlb, 17s, 17s 6d; Danish, 14----181b. 12s 6d, 13s.
Apples.—Steady demand, but prices have eased owing to larger supplies imported. Californian Gravensteins, Bs, 8s 6d; Jonathans, 9s 6d, 10s 6d; Washington Jonathans, 10s 6d, 11s 6d. Pears.—Market is weaker, although supplies smaller. Californian Doyenne dv Cornice, 11s, 13s 6d; Beurre Hardy, Bs, 10s 6d; Beurre Bosc, 7s 9d, lls; British Columbian'Anjous, 10s 6d, 11s 6d. ...
Peas. —Maples, market quiet; old crop supplies short. New crop No. 1 offered March-April shipment, 555; no business reported. Buyers' ideas, 50s. Tasmanian: old crop not offered. New crop, February-March shipment, sold early this month, 575. Blues.—Market steady; A grade Tasmanian. October-November, quoted £11 10s; new crop, February-March shipment, £12.
