The deep gratitude that everyone felt because the war clouds which had threatened to burst over Europe had passed away was expressed by the Minister of Education (the Hon. P. Fraser) before he began a political address in Ashburton on Saturday evening. In certain respects the dictators of the. world largely had their way, but the calamity which threatened was terrible, said Mr. Fraser. Everyone felt that a load had been lifted from the mind and heart, and all were thankful to Mr. Chamberlain for saving the world from world-wide bloodshed.
