LONDON, October 2. When the history of the crisis comes to be written, it is possible that attention will be paid to statements in the French Press that there were two vital factors which preserved peace. The first of these is that German generals warned Herr Hitler that Gei many was unable to engage in a general war against Britain, France, and Russia, and the second is that pressure for peace was exerted by the Pope and the King of Italy on Signor Mussolini.
