DETACHMENTS WIPED OUT

(Received October 3, 10.30 a.m.) HANKOW, October 2. The Chinese, in a powerful counteroffensive, launched from Wuning, annihilated two Japanese detachments, killing 3000. A Tokio report states that the Japanese estimate that the Chinese casualties for a fortnight's fighting at Tienchiacheng were over' 30,000, including 5000 dead, who were left on the battlefield.
