SKIING RACES
NGAURUHOE CUP DECIDED
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) THE CHATEAU, October 2. Beautiful weather favoured the running of the Ngauruhoe Cup races today and the standard of skiing was very high. Twenty-four competitors from all over the North Island participated in the races for' the cup, which was presented by Mr. Tom Mitchell. The winner was P. Schwieters, whose points in the two events combined gave him a r margin over C. Ambury. Results:— Downhill Race, 1J miles.—C. Ambury, 1; P. Schwieters, 2. Time, Imin 50sec. Average speed, 48 miles an hour. The altitude was from 10,000 ft to 5800 ft. Slalom.—Schwieters, 1; Ambury, 2. Women's Race.—Mrs. H. Ely (Sydney), 1; Miss Joyce Harrison (Auckland), 2. Officials commented on the absence of casualties in the running events.
