MR.. NASH AT CAMBRIDGE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
■•":?*"■': CAMBRIDGE, This Day. '-'' A storm of cheers, catcalls, and booing greeted the Hon. W. Nash, who addressed a packed meeting at the Town Hall, Cambridge last night nearly '1000 electors being present.
■ /"We want our Mayor heard," was ..the call from a number of places when :the chairman, the Hon. J. E. Duncan, Te Awamutu, rose to introduce the 'Slinister. ' .
;/ A long time before the noise subsided sufficiently for Mr. Duncan to be ijeard two Cambridge borough councillors sought permission to make a 'Statement in regard to an intimation of the Waikato Labour executive to the Mayor, Mr. Edgar James, that they ;had'no confidence in his impartiality as .chairman' and a last minute withdrawal of the invitation extended to jhhh.teh days ago'to be chairman at Mr. Nash's meeting. Permission, however, was refused, Mr. Nash stating ;that they had a right to choose their "own chairman.
:'-• The Minister addressed the meeting at length on the guaranteed price, say",ing that the farmers were better off this year than ten years ago. Costs, he claimed, were in favour of the farmer. /Retail prices since 1935 had gone up 14 per cent, but 7 per cent of that Was due to increase in the value of farm products. Wholesale prices advanced only 10 per cent, so with the export price of dairy produce up by 30 per cent the farmer was naturally much better off, the Minister claimed.
A vote of thaflks and confidence was .declared carried amid a general uproar.;
