"When; I -saw these microphones on the stage I thought; this speech was going to be- broadcast, but I realise that it is not," said the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) at Professor R. M- Algie's meeting in the Town Hall last' night. "The man who issspeakirig to. the nation tonight over the^air is Mr. D. ityfcDpugall. (Laughter, arid cheers.) I dO not know Whether' the people of New Zealand are. going, to, sit, up. and listen to Mr. McDougall, or the speech put into the mouth of .Mr. McDougall, an. alleged Independent. I .make no apology for that, because I am a citizen, and when I sit in front of my wireless set I want to have an opportunity of hearing something worth while."
