LOWER HUTT ASSESSMENTS

A sitting of the Urban Farm Lands Court was held yesterday in the Lower Hutt Borough Council Chambers. :.Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., was chairman. The market gardeners' assessor was Mr. F. S. Hewer and the Lower.' Hutt Borough Council assessor was Mr; W. Smith.

The Court was set up under the Urban Farms Bating Act, which during the depression gave owners of farms' 7or agricultural property,;within a borough;.power:to appeal 1 for reductions in valuations for rating poses on the ground that their, properties were used-exclusively pr/priricipally for farm or agricultural .purposes. _ . '■;■

Mr. E. P. Bunny and Mr. N. T. Gillespie represented the Lower Hutt Borough Cbuncil and Mr. E. F. Rothwell the applicants, who were divided into two sections, those owning three or less acres and-those owning more than three.

The principal reduction was made In the case of Mr. H. J. Poole, who Is in the position of having a proclamation over his land for railway purposes, which prevents his subdividing his land and selling.

The decisions of the Court were as follows (the Government valuation, the Court's valuation, and the reduction, if any, being given in each case):—
