MASSED BANDS' DISPLAY.
The massed bands' display at the Basin Reserve on Sunday afternoon proved a most interesting entertainment and was distinctly enlightening as to the efficiency of Wellington local bands. Commencing with a:massed march under Drum-Major Kehoe, the programme was carried out without a fault. Following the massed i march, the bands played a hymn, "Deep Harmony," under the conductorship of Mr. J. J. Drew, and this iwas followed by a creditable performance of the waltz "Donnanwellen," conducted by Mr. W. Bowman. The massed items were brought to a close by 'the performance of the march "Holyrood," under Mr. A. Iremonger's conductorship. The bands then gave 'an individual display of the quickstep, and the public were invited to • express their opinion • on the 'merits of the various bands. -The result of the voting was: Port Nicholson. 1, Institute Silver 2, Artillery 3.
