AMERICAN LABOUR LEADER

ARREST RECOMMENDED

WASHINGTON, January 27.

The Secretary *of Labour, Miss Frances Perkins, disclosed that the Seattle district' office of the Immigration Service has recommended ■ the arrest of Mr. H. Bridges, the Australian labour leader. i

The Labour Department is now investigating whether sufficient evidence exists for a deportation warrant. A formal hearing is expected soon.

Mr. Bridges appeared in Portland several times and criticised the city's government; , r Mr. Carson N declared that since , Mr. Bridges was not an American citizen, he had no right to do so. Labour disorders in the shipping industry had cost Portland 1,000,000,000 dollars during the past three years.
