SUGGESTIVE TITLE
The excellent, if suggestive, title of r "Here I Lie" has been chosen by Alex ■Thompson ("Dangle") for his "mem- ■ orial of an old journalist." -The reader of these reminiscences, is taken: back over a period sixty years by a man -whose introdi^ption to a varied life began with the Paris .Commune of 1871. His apprenticeship to journal- ■ ism was served modestly while he was a junior clerk in the office of a Manchester newspaper. An early association with Robert Blatchford led, to a lifelong friendship1 and to their partnership in- the production of the "Clarion" of old Socialist fame. \ He tells of its ups and downs, of the ambitions of its proprietors, and of the TJersonalities encountered ; during its stormy career, which was terminated by "the war. World events- and; the leading Socialists in T England and abroad figure prominently in : a robust autobiography, which filled with cheery optimism. . . "
