WOTAN IN WORK
CHAT IN H. DULIEU'S TEAM
(Special from "Hurry On.")
NEW PLYMOUTH. January 28. The Melbourne Cup winner Wotan has put up an appearance on the New Plymouth track, having joined H Dulieu's team. He is looking bright and muscular after his short spell and should not be long in coming to hand. Though his recent performances have not been impressive, he is a classy galloper who will only require to come i-ight to win good races. ;
Another addition to the same stable is Chat, who was purchased by Mrs G. M. Bennett, and for whom Dulieu has won races with Chief Marionette cfnd Sporting Song. Though she has not won a race since Marton .early in the season, Chat is a useful sort and may improve.
S. Cleaver has Book Law in great heart.at present. He has not put a foot wrong since winning at Stratford on New Year's Day and looks sure to add to his winning record during the New Plymouth and Hawera Meetings. Cleaver has lost the services of his other -jumper, Don Errria, who broke down at Stratford. The Daniloff gelding is making a good recovery, even though it may be winter before he races again.
Tomoana has R. Barlow puzzled. He has put up some great trials on the track but fails with the colours up. He is to be given another chance on the coming circuit.
Though Clessamor was nominated for the Taranaki Cup he will not be a starter, his mission being the. Flying Handicap. However, it is probable that he will be tried over a middle distance before the race. By Lackham from, the All Black mare Cleasanta, he should'run out a mile and a quarter. Lady Kyra suffered no ill effects from her race at Trentham and galloped well on Thursday morning. She will probably be found contesting the Taranaki Cup next week. and. under her light weight, she may be capable of mailing a bold showing.
The only other local Cup hope is Red Sand, who won over seven furlongs at Ashhurst last Saturday. Though she has not won over'a longer distance than nine furlongs, xher trainer. H. Dulieu, is confident that she will beat more than beat her in the mile and three furlongs race.
The.concluding day of the Takapuna Meeting, which is being held on the Ellersli'e course, is set down, for Monday. ... . ~...'.
