FINE AND WARM

MORE CLOUD TOMORROW

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate, but gradually freshening, northerly winds. Weather fine ,i. and warm, but

clouding over tomorrow.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing 24 hours, is for north-easterly to northerly winds prevailing. These will be light to moderate' at first, but will be gradually freshening, especially about and to the south of Cook Strait. The weather for the most part will be fair to fine, but it will be clouding over in western districts and scattered rains will be developing in Westland and in the far south. Temperatures will be warm.

The anticyclone which has dominated the meteorological situation is now moving slowly eastward, and barometers have begun to fall in the far south owing to the advance of a rather deep westerly depression across the southern Tasman.Sea. Winds, however, are still only light to moderate in force, and by this morning they had become northerly in direction almost generally. There have been a few isolated local rains in the Auckland and Taranaki districts, but otherwise fine weather has prevailed, and temperatures have gradually become warmer. ' ■

Auckland's weather yesterday was fine, although rather cloudy, the wind being a light north-easterly. The maximum temperature was 72.1 degrees and the minimum 64.1 degrees. The weather this morning was clear.

Wellington again had a fine and sunny day, 13.5 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. The maximum and minimum .temperatures were 69.4 and 49.9 degrees respectively. A moderate southerly wind prevailed yesterday, but the night was calm, and by this morning a light northwesterly had set in.

In Christchurch it was fine and sunny, with a moderate north-easterly wind, the maximum temperature being 63.3 degrees and the minimum 56.1 degrees. A fresh east-north-easterly was blowing there at 9 a.m. today, and the sky was overcast.

The morning in Dunedin was rather cloudy, but there was bright sunshine most of the afternoon, the wind being a fresh north-easterly. The weather this morning was fair, with a fresh northerly wind. ■
