FALL OF ROCK
FATAL ACCIDENT
When a face of rock was being prepared for blasting. at Haywards Hill, Hutt Valley, about 11.20 a.m. yesterday, one man was killed and another extensively' injured by a fall of rock.
Mr. Ernest William Tucker, a mar : ried man, aged 27, with one child, living at Wainui-o-mata, was killed. Mr. J. Lamb, machine driller, 28, Mandalay Terrace, Khandallah,. received lacerated wounds to ; his face, arms, hands, .legs, and injuries to his back and chest. • He was taken to'the Public Hospital by the Free Ambulance. The section of rock face which was being prepared for blasting fell prematurely, before the charge was exploded, and Tucker's, body was completely covered by the fragments, more than an hour1 being spent in moving the debris it could be It was ascertained today that Mr. Lamb was making satisfactory progress. '
