COMPARATIVE FIGURES

Figures supplied by the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board show that during the period between October 1, 1937, and January 15, 1938, there was an increase in the exports of chilled beef, frozen beef, pork, and boneless beef, compared with the amounts exported for the corresponding period twelve months previously, but the export quantities of mutton and lamb decreased.

The quantities exported during the latest period, with those for the same period a year ago in parentheses, are as follows:—Chilled beef, 48,294 quarters' (44,111); frozen beef, 41,809 quarters (36,793); mutton, 307,384 carcasses (318,276); lamb, 1,316.769 carcasses (1,349,175); pork, 162,769 carcasses (160,125); and boneless beef, 71,310 bags (38.905).

Killings for export at all works in the same period, with those for the preceding year's period in parentheses, are shown as follows:—Chilled beef (qrs.), 50,387 (42,695); frozen beef (qrs.),1 7767 (4286); wether mutton (c/cs.), 156.378 (111.664); ewe mutton (c/cs.), 78,243 . The board is advised by cable from j its London office that the shipments from Australia, South America,' and!
