DEWAR SHIELD MEETING

The first of the two meetings held annually in the inter-club competition to decide possession of the Dewar Shield is to take place tomorrow; at Hataitai Park. The Dewar Shield competition is a team contest, and this usually leads to the putting up of some good performances, because apart from the individual aspect there is the added incentive for each competitor to do his utmost for his team and club. The Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre has the services of a highly qualified coach this season, and since his arrival here from America Mr. A. L. Fitch has helped many local athletes to eradicate faults in style and has put others on the right road to better performances as well. They will be seen in action tomorrow, and with them will be a number who have reached championship class and are again well to the fore this season. The programme comprises 13 Dewar Shield events and five open handicaps.
