An ice jam swept away the Niagara Falls view-bridge, linking the United States and Canada. The ice pack reached a height of 70 feet. The steel arches in the ecu l.re of the bridge buckled and the structure was slowly carried downr stream. ' Ice enveloped the hydro-electric po\ver plant on the Canadian side and threatened to sweep it out. The i employees escaped shortly before the ice cut off the -entrance. Sight- | seeing boats were trapped. The ice rose twenty feet in three hours, and is still rising. Gales broke up the ice on Lake Erie, and the entire upper river is filled with gigantic chunks, which are thundering over falls.-'
