BOTANISTS HONOURED
SWEDISH DISTINCTION
The Swedish Phytographical Society, which studies botany from a geograp.dcal point of view, has honoured Dr. W. E. fB. Oliver, Director of the Dominion iMuseum,, and Dr. H. H. Allan, Direiftor of. the Botany Section of the Plant(ißesearch Bureau, by electing them corresponding - members. The Swedish • Flnytographical Society .is recognised as one of the leading scientific bodies fhj the world. Dr. G. E. Dv Rietz isj a* president; arid'in ,1927 he spent six months in the Dominion studying thij!. indigenous flora. These honours have been awarded because of .their published researches into biology of Neyj- Zealand vegetation and in recognition of the valuable assistance, they, giave the president of the society on his visit4o New Zealand in 1927. Dr. .&llan has learnt Swedish to keep in V;puch with Scandinavian botany and liopes to attend the international bot^inical congress in Stockholm in 1940..
