TESTS FOR SINGERS

(To the Editor.) Sir, —If it had not been for the recent quest for young singers, how would the general public-know of those many beautiful voices, and how would > the little girl who won have got on? iWould "Burlington R. dade," or any of those whose names he mentions, go to the trouble of searching for ialent, and, finding it, train it free? lliat is what the quest has done. There is a lot of talent here in New Zealand, as was proved, and in some cases from homes that have barely enough to live on, let alone pay out in fees for music or singing. This quest has given the little girl a; chance which otherwise she might never have had. I believe in deeds not words, and I would like, to Hear something like it every year.— I am. etc., , • NOT ASINGER.
