SIMONE SIMON SINGS.
When a star who has always played--straight dramatic roles, announces that' she is going to sing, there is always an extra chuckle. "Who is going to. do i ""her singing for her?" asl. the - wiseacres. . That is just what they wanted < to know when.the first announcement; went out that Simone Simon, star of--1 "Girls' . Dormitory" and "Seventh ■ Heaven," was going to sing in her' new 20th Century-Fox musical production. Then there came the day on the set when she was to sing the difficult , "Bell Song" from the opera "Lakme," , which only once before has been tried " on the screen, and tnat time by Lily ' Pons. There were several newspaper and magazine critics who happened 'to j be visiting the studio, seated in the movie night club where she was before the cameras. Her high, lilting soprano voice floated over the large set and ■ those there were watching the birth of a new singing actress.
