LUCKY CAR
FOUL OF EXPRESS TRAIN
JUST GRAZED ON A* CROSSING
(Special to the "Evenins Post.") ! PALMERSTON N., Tnis Day.
Serious injuries and possibly death were avoided by the narrowest of margins" by. the occupants of a-'car whici* appeared, to be struck on the front portion of the body by the down New Plymouth, express near-the 'Terrace End railway station at " Palmerston North about 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The trains having. .-just. descended the incline at the rear: of the cemetery, was travelling at a fairly I fast speed at the v time. An eye-witness of the accident -said that the car, a large touring model, attempted to . cross the-railway line I from the west side of Main Street into Fitzroy Street just as the engine entered the crossing. -After being grazed by the speeding 'express,. the vehicle slewed round, facing the same direction as the' train was travelling. The driver stopped the train and the crew went back to investigate.
It is understood that nobody was injured. The car was driven away under its own power.
