One of America's distinguished economists, Dr. George Ernest Barnett, of Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A., will' arrive in New Zealand shortly on a brief visit ■: ' :

Dr. Barnett is a professor of political economy, and has been, professor of statistics at the John Hopkins University since 1911. .He was born in February, 1873, and achieved his Ph. D. at the John Hopkins University in 1902, where he acted as assistant professor of economics until 1911, when he gained a full professorship. He was president <of the American Economic Association dn 1932, and is also a distinguished member of trie American Statistical :Association and the American Association for Labour Legislation. Dr. Barnett is the author of several books and treatises, including "State Banking in the United States," "The Printers," "State Banks and Trust Companies," "Mediation, Investigation, and Arbitration .in Industrial Disputes" :(v|fith D. A.=;McCabe), "Machinery and Labour," arid "A Trial Bibliography of American Trade Union Publications." He was #lso creditor of "Studies in American Trade Unionism."' :
