In discussing the number of fails at the'first hurdle in the straight at Eller'slie, trainers present at a meeting of the Auckland -branch of the New Zealand Owners', Breeders', and Trainers' Association last week were of the opinion that the shadow thrown by the obstacle was the main .cause of the frequent mishaps. The chairman stated that the Auckland Club's committee infendedj in future, to put on the hurdle race at an earlier hour durr ing the summer months, so as to eliminate this aspect of danger.
