BRITAIN TAKES OVER
While Ban pumped out propaganda to the Aiabic world and Italy nego-_ tiated a treaty .with Yemen, seeking to increase her influence _in Southern Arabia, by giving her a foothold on both sides of the Strait* of Bab-el-Mandeb, Britain quietlyissued an Order-m-Council formally declaring that Hadramaut always had been part of the Aden protectorate. The real reason of the declaration was to show clearly that Britain would hot tolerate any territorial change which other Powers migtit seek *t» secure. She would not allow any European Power to establish itself on the east side of the Red Sea. Hadramaut, with an area of nearly 100 000 square miles, lies between Yemen and Oman, and lacks a> een* tral authority. From it come molt of the Arab settlers in the . £as| j Indici. ' '
