CONCRETE WORKERS
Conditions of employment for Wellington workers in the concrete, pipe, pumice,' and concrete goods industry were considered by the Conciliation Council today, Mr. M. J. Reardon presiding. '. , ■' •,
The parties were represented as follows:— Employers: Messrs. E. Turksma, R. J. Murphy, A. H. M. Weight, and A. W. Nisbet. Employees: Messrs. 'A, K. Bell, R. N. Shaw, H. P. Morgan, and P. M. Butler. ; :
Each party sought a 40-hour week. The employers' wagesi scale ranged from 2s 2£d an hour to'2s.6d, and the employees sought a scale ranging from 2s 6d an hour ;o 2s 9d. The-employees asked that the works foreman should not receive less than £7, a week. The employers' wages stale for youths was 15s weekly for youths under 16 years and 55s for youths from 20 to 21, rising to 72s 6d in. the second half of the afth year. The workers asked for 22s 6d weekly for youths of 16 to 17 years, and 62s 6d for those 20 to 21 risinK to 72s 6d in the seventh year.
