FARMER PROSECUTED

AGRICULTURAL WORKERS ACT

(Special to the "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. The first prosecution in Feilding for breaches of the Agricultural Workers Act was heard at the Magistrate's Court, before Mr. R. M. Watson, S.M., yesterday, the defendant being Gordon Jeffries, of Taonui, for whom Mr. T. L. Seddon appeared. The defendant was charged1 on two counts, one of failing to pay the wages prescribed in the Act and the second of failing to keep a wages and holiday book as provided in the Act. Both offences were admitted. In fining the defendant £2, with costs, on each charge the Magistrate said that he took into consideration the fact, that it was the first case of its kind in. Feilding and also the fact that i the Department would press for the' recovery of the arrears owing. j
