DUNEDIN TROTTING CUP
Although the fleld for the Dunedin Cup, to be decided tomorrow, is far from a large one, the quality of the entrants is of a high standard. Parisienne and Pluf.us continue to hold their positions as the early favourites says the 'Tress," and Pot Luck and Willow Wave are also well fancied in certain quarters. All Parisienne's best performances have been given over two-mile distances, and her racing has' stamped her as a rare stayer. ' This season she has won four races in a manner that has left little doubt of her ability to hold her own in the best company, and she is probably open to more improvement than the majority opposed to her on Thursday. ." With seven wins, a second, and a third to his credit to this, stage of the season, Plutus has compiled a remarkable record. ..As both a sprinter, and a stayer he lias proved himself to be a good horse, and his consistency has made him most popular with racegoers. The best that Cloudy Range and Evicus have been able.to achieve to this stage of the season,is one minor placing each, but their showings have suggested that they are due to make a return to the winning list at an early date. Nor has Graham Direct proved capable of leading a field home since this season opened, but he has made some pleasing efforts, and his two recent seconds'over two miles have left little to be desired.
Usually regarded as an outstanding stayer, War Buoy's winning efforts in the last few months have been recorded over a mile and a quarter, and his showings over the longer distance have not been up to his usual standard. On the other hand, Pot Luck has never earned credit as a twc-miler, but all his placings this term have been over that distance, and he has raced really well for two wins, three seconds, and a third. He appears to be getting much more solid with experience and age, and there are few horses with better recent form.'
Willow Wave, the backmarker, has generally given of his best on the Forbiiry Park track. Where Addington has found him most unreliable, Dunedin meetings have seen him race consistently well, and if he repeats the form shown by him over the Auckland Cup fixture he will have to be respected in this class. The material will be on hand to provide an excellent race in the Dunedin Cup, in which young horses in Parisienne. Plutus, and Pot Luck have found early favour..
