VALUABLE CATTLE SHIPMENT.

A shipment of 32 stud polled Shorthorns from the United States arrived in Sydney recently by the Yorriachichi. This is believed to be the largest importation of stud cattle for one breeder, and it is valued at nearly £10,000.

' The cattle were personally selected last year by Mr. E. L. Killen,. from the leading polled herds of U.S.A., and they are for his Antrim Stud, near Wellington. Two cows died on the voyage, but the others, consisting of five bulls and 27 cows, are in very good condition. Two calves were born on the way out, and another was taken on board at New York^

Charged with deserting from the s.s. Arawa at Lyttelton on January 5, William Colcman Valentine, a seaman, aged 19, was sentenced to three weeks' imprisonment by Mr. .1. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today.
