BUTTER AND MEAT
TRADE WITH CANADA
RESULTS OF MR. NASH'S VISIT
(By I'elcgrupb—J-Yess Assui;)Htiun.)
AUCKLAND, This Day,
Vast increases in the export of New Zealand primary produce to Canada were foreshadowed when the Aorangi sraled for Vancouver with • a shipment of 15..000 ct-.ses of butter. It is known that further large shipments are to be made during the Canadian off-sea-son, so that the export figures for the first three months of the year may establish a record.
This stimulation of exports is understood to be the result of negotiations by the Minister of Customs (the Hon. W. Nash) when he visited Canada last year. It is believed an undertaking was then given that Canada would buy increased quantities of Dominion butter. The Canadian tariff amendments came into operation in October last. The first major export of meat from New Zealand under the new rates is expected to be made shortly.
The Canadian Trade Commissioner (Mr. W. F. Bull) said today that it appeared his country would take an appreciably larger quantity of butter from New Zealand than it did from Australia. New Zealand butter had a high prestige in Canada, he added.
