SATURDAY RETAINED
UPPER HUTT'S HALF-HOLIDAY
The Upper Hutt Borough Council decided unanimously last evening to retain Saturday afternoon as the weekly half-holiday. A petition favouring closing on Wednesday carried 21 signatures and stated that if Wednesday were granted this would not impose any hardship on' shopkeepers wishing to close on Saturday, as provision was made in the Act for anyone wishing to close on Saturday to do-so. ■ Sixteen shopkeepers presented a petition in favour of the Saturday halfholiday Tn addition, another petition signed' by . 293 residents who were in favour of' the Saturday half-holiday was presented and it was stated in support that no inconvenience had been caused by having Saturday as the lialf-day. The council decided to-retain Saturday as the half-day.
