UNUSUAL CASE
INSPECTORS ON SCENE
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
PALMERSTON N., January 24.
When Maurice Paul Nottingham, aged 46, farmer, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., charged with intoxication while driving a car, Senior-Ser-geant Mclntyre revealed unusual circumstances in the case. He said that two Highways Board traffic inspectors were assisting a motorist to mend a tyre when the accused arrived and inquired if they were all right. He was informed that they were but continued to call out insistently. This aroused the suspicion of the inspectors regarding his sobriety and one conversed with him and formed the opinion that the accused was intoxicated. Two doctors later certified him unfit to drive.
The Magistrate cancelled the accused's licence for twelve months and fined him £15.
John Henry McGregor, labourer, of Foxton, was dealt with in the same way on a similar charge.
