LEAVING FOR CHRISTCHURCH

Glowing fires dispelled yesterday afternoon's chill, when Mrs. W. A. Tanner entertained a number of friends at a tea party at her hon.e in Jubileee Road, Khandallah, in honour of Mrs. T. B. Strong, who will leave shortly for Chrislchurch. Bright flowers, attractively arranged in all the rooms, maintained the cheery atmosphere of warmth and good fellowship. Several guests gave items which were much enjoyed, and a dainty home-made afternoon tea was served. "Auld Lang Syne" was sung at the conclusion of a very happy party. Among'those present were'Mesdames J. Henderson, J. M. Mulford, A. H. Hoby, H. Abraham, G. Living, Tyme, Reid, H. Desborough, Kirschberg, N. Jack, A..J. Daniel, Bradden, Meek, H. H. A. Renai, H. . D.I.C. for Mrs. F. Ellison, of England, , who is visiting the Dominion. A basket ,of pastel-shaded Iceland poppies centred the tafele, which was attractively set for the occasion. Among those present were Mrs. C. Backhouse, Mrs. A. Hodder, and Miss Hodder. FRIENDS ENTERTAINED. Mrs. A. PARTY ON THURSDAY. Miss Peggy Bowie was guest of honour at a party ■given by Mrs. G. C. Godfrey on Thursday afternoon. Mrs. .Godfrey,/assisted by Miss Bowie (her" future, daughter-in-law) wore a graceful, hostess gown.. 6f black velvet, with'a posy/of anemones. Miss Bowie was in a chic navy ensemble, with a matching navy hat and brown furs. Greenfield Brown, Nancy and Barbara Gillespie, Joan Rawson, Didsbury, Fisher, and June Wilson. IN HONOUR OF DAUGHTER. An enjoyable evening party _was given' recently in the Assembly Hall, Brougham Street, by Mr. and Mrs. R. Mottram in honour of their daughter. Ada, about 100 guests being present. Among those present were Mesdames G. Clark, J. Clark, W. Bailey, T. Bailey, M. McDonald, J. M. McAdams. C. Ingle, A. Judd, Connelly, Hodges. K. White, T. Allan, and S. Johns; Misses L. Clark, C. A pleasant evening was spent with items by Miss M. Bell. and- Mr. T. Lacey and in dancing, and a sit-down supper was enjoyed. Miss Mottram was heartily toasted and was the recipient of many handsome gifts and good wishes. The party concluded with the' singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.
