NEW INTER-CLUB TROPHY

.Competition in golf is certainly bringing- out many interesting young ,players, and. much of this is due to ;the inter-club competitions. As the clubs participating in the .Watt : and Ranish Cup contests are now1 -stabilised, the- admission of other clubs to these contests is impracticable, but :there is a growing number of junior clubs who are without some annual competition between them. One of the great pleasures of golf is the interclub matches, and while it is possible to have interrclub games without special trophies, such a^ the Squadron Cup and Crawford Crescent, and the Watt and Ranish Cups above referred to,, there is rjo_ doubt, that, the annual competition for a trophy, yearly records of which, are kept, rouses interest in the form of the participants; Handicaps are watched more closely, and each, club takes pride in the production of enough, new players on comparatively low marks, to make ateam with some prospects of success. Clubs that have grown remarkably since their inception Eire Judgeford, Karori, Tui. Glen, Rangimarie, .'■ Te Marua, and others. Visits have been paid by teams of these clubs to each other, but there is no set annual contest so far. An-attempt "was made to arrange some such contest between a number of these clubs, but nothing definite has transpired. A member of Judgeford, Mr. F. H". Bustin, has presented a cup to-be played for annually between Judgeford and Tui Glen, but not to be restricted to those clubs if others are willing to join in the contest. By nex.t season sometlung more definite in the way of an inter-club' contest for the newer clubs may have .eventuated) Few. clubs ; today are troubled by lack' of members; it is rather otherwise, and amongst the clubs named above ; ,there would be no lack of good teams.' A large- number of golfers prefer their games to be free ,<from . regular obligations, but there should be plenty of young players anxious, to improve their play, to take their'places. : : • •■■.,-
