CLARION CALL AGAIN
EXCELLENT DOUBLE
FINAL DAY AT WANGANUI
■ ■ Good June weather favoured the conclusion "of the Wanganui . Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Wanganui yesterday, and there was an excellent attendance, for the hpHday. The morning was mild with plenty of sunshine, and' although it became overcast later there was never any threat of further • rain. The track was. in splendid order, slightly soft but much firmer underneath than on Saturday, and it was near ideal for winter racing.
Except for the first event, the betting was always- a shade in excess of last year's Birthday figures. The investments for -the'- day mounted to £2L944, as against £20,634 10s last year, making a total of £34,766 for the meeting, compared with £33,037 10s twelve months ago,, an \ increase of £1728 10s." ■ ■••':. , '"Though sbmeVof the margins were wider than on the first, day, the racing was again interestingly contested, and form as a whole was an instructive guide. -The three jumping races were won from Marton stables, Clarion Call and Ethiop scoring doubles at the meeting, and Croyden, from the same stable as Ethiop, scoring at his only outing. ■ . . ' A feature ;of the day. was the further success of F. McHugh on Ethiop and Clarion Call, which provided this horseman with a treble am three mounts at the. meeting. A. Jenkins, who was the outstanding rider on the first day, had-the ill luck to take a heavy fall off Hunting Queen, in the June Hurdles, and as -he suffered a broken, collarbone and ankle he is likely to be out of the. saddle: for some time. - ..■-, ... .. .. ■
