STEADY BOWLING

CRICKET AT WORCESTER

COUNTY AT WICKETS ALL DAY

N.Z. FIELDING GOOD

(From the Special Representative of

the United Press Association.)

(Received June. 10, 10 .a.m.).

WORCESTER, June 9,

The consistent steadiness of the tour, ists' bowling was a feature of the first day's play in the cricket match between New Zealand and Worcestershire. The wicket was ,the fastest of thetour and the outfield was also. fast. The weather was excellent. Worcestershire batted all day for a score Of 374. The attendance was about 1200. A good, crowd is expected tomorrow, which is a half-holiday in Worcester. The teams are:— New Zealand.—M. L. Page, J. L. Kerr, W. A. Hadlee, G. L. Weir, H. G. Vivian, D; A. R. Moloney, A. W. Roberts, J. R. Lamason, W. N. Carson, N. Gallichan, T. C. Lowry. Worcestershire—C. H. Bull, V.>Grimshaw, Cooper, H. H. Gibbons, S. H. Martin, J. Horton, R. Haworth, S. Builer, R. T. D. Perks, P. F, Jackson, B. W. Quaife; The New Zealand bowlers kept to their task in fine heart and the scoring rate was always-moderate. Gallichan persistently pegged away, delivering 33 overs for only 55 runs before taking a wicket. Vivian was similarly inexpensive and was effective against the tail-end batsmen. ... Roberts's reward for long periods of steady bowling might easily have been richer. Weir used the.new ball at moderate cost and with constant prospects of sucpess. FIELDING APPLAUDED. The ground fielding was frequently applauded and a fine catch was taken at slip by Roberts and some good ones on the boundary by Lamason and HadWorcestershire, who. have ' beater. Derbyshire, Glamorgan,' and War wick- . shire this season, topped 200 for the loss of only two wickets. Cooper, a 20-year-old recruit from the Lancashire League, played soundly. A century was made in real Sutcliffe style by Grimshaw, a former, Yorkshireman who took four and a half hours fo get his runs. , ~ , The bowlers then- enjoyed the supremacy till Horton and Buller added 70 runs together in 40 minutes.; the former hitting strongly- and cleanly.
