POWER SHUT OFF
STRIKERS' ACTION
CRISIS IN MICHIGAN

FLINT (MICHIGAN), June 9.
Striking employees of the Power Company pulled out the distributioft switches, shutting off all the electric current of the city, which has a population of 165.00Q, except that used in hospitals, sanitation plants, and dairies, and resulting in the closing of six General Motor Corporation plants employing 42,000 'men. Pickets are stationed about the power distribution station. ' . •
Subsequently commercial power was shut off throughout the remainder of the Saginaw Valley, includmg Saginaw Bay City, involving the closingof four more General Motors plants. Three hundred and fifty thousand power users in the valley are affected. The earlier shut-off halted the trackless trams and traffic signals in' Flint.
■ Homes throughout the valley, wjrth the exception of Flint, are not affected. Governor Murphy, who is visiting Pittsburgh, said he would fly to Flint unless there was an immediate settlement. "The current must be turned on before nightfall," he said. "The people of Flint must not endure a night of darkness. I personally guarantee to prevent that." . . .; .:
