POWER CHARGES

Sir—The protest by "Consumer" which you so kindly published in the "Evening Post" tonight reveals an alarming state of affairs, inasmuch as the retailer of Government electricity in the Hutt charges a very much higher rate than a neighbouring retailer—Wellington—and gets away with it. May I state my own experience? Recently I moved from the city to Lower Hutt. Comparing my accounts where the current consumed is approximately the same, I find that 62 units in Wellington cost me 3s 5d net, and 62 units in the Hutt cost 9s 4d net; 362 unit;; in Wellington cost 19s 9d net, and 358 units in the Hutt cost £1 18s 4d net. These figures speak for themselves and call for an immediate investigation by the Government. Perhaps you would obtain and publish an explanation of the foregoing figures by the Hutt Power Board.
