"I've just had a report from the officer in; charge of the school for drivers, and:l am pleased to say that he reports. it. to be a great success," said Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday.

A young lady,;. Zeta Swain, was charged, with drhdng a motor-car in a manner which might have been dangerous. She pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector C. E. Roach, who prosecuted, said; that the defendant swung out to rjass another car, went on to,the wrong set of tram' rails, and collided^ with, a tram travelling in the opposite direction.. , : "How long have you been driving?" asked .the Magistrate. ... Mosley: What''about ■ sending you to school? .Would Vyou. sooner' go to school for a month,'' or pay a fairly heavy fine? . / Defendant: ' I would sooner go to ■school. -■.■•. ■ The defendant was admitted to probation for three months, a condition being that she attend, the school of instruction for drivers now being held by the City Council Traffic Office, on four occasions, once in each of four weeks, commencing within 14 ('ays. "This mfens," said, the Magistrate, "that you report forthwith to the female probation officer. She will make arrangements for you to be given instruction in how to drive, the Motor Vehicles Act and Regulations, and also in the exercising of proper road courtesy.. I -am" quite sure you will appreciate the instruction and be;glad you took .it.".. The defendant was; ordered to pay costs 14s. ■ ' A Palmerston North defendant, Martin Hansen, was charged by the Main Highways Board with driving in. a manner which might have been dangerous. Inspector Crawford, who prosecuted, said that the defendant passed him:in.Tawa Flat at about,3s m.p.h. and accelerated to 40 m.p.h. . At chat speed .he topped a rise, level with: a heavily-laden. lorry. ' , It. was a Very, dangerous place .to pass , another vehicle.
