TROTS POSTPONEMENT

MEETING AT RICCARTON?

The postponement of the Canterbury Park Trotting's Club's Meeting on Saturday proved a big disappointment to many enthusiasts, some of whom had come, from the West Coast and South Canterbury, says the "Press." The decision to postpone the fixture was not made until Saturday morning, and it is thought that when heavy rain.set in early on Friday night the decision should have been made at once.

It was plain to anyone with a knowledge of the conditions existing at Addington that racing was almost impossible, and there is an opinion that conditions will not be much better by Saturday, next. The track has received a thorough soaking,, and with the possibility, of frosts during the week, conditions will not be improved. Whilq exceptionally . fine weather, which can hardly be1 expected at this season of the.year, might give the custodian, a chance to provide suitable going in a week, it seems that the committee of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club would be well advised to abandon its meeting for the present season, and seek permission for another permit on a suitable date in the new year. Trainers are keeping their horses in work for the meeting, but cannot be expected to keep pacers and trotters in top form for an indefinite period. The latest report, however, is that the meeting will be held at Riccarton on Saturday next.
