RABAUL VOLCANOES

OFFICIALS TO RESUME DUTY

SYDNEY, June. 8.

The Administrator of New Guinea, Brigadier-General W. R. McNicoll, in .a message from Rabaul today, stated that both volcanoes are apparently dead now. Government officials are returning to resume duties. The medical officer is able to cope with the situation.

The number of native deaths was less than 20.

W. R. Carpenter and Company have bought the New South Wales coastal steamer Coombar, which will replace one of the vessels lost in the eruption.
