LONDON, June 7. Hiubert Opperman this morning recaptured the London to Portsmouth and back unpaced cycle record lately held by the Australian Stewart, and brokien. last week by the Englishman Jamles. Salting out at 2 a.m., Opperman founjd himself suffering from the effects of tlae recent six-day race, and he did not -cegain his form till he had covered 50 r.niles in 2 hours 22 minutes" 30 secoiads. At one stage he was four minutes outsifle the record and had to cover the last 23 miles in an hour to succeed. English officials considered the task hopeless, but he rode brilliantly ovsr hilly (country and regained the record with 127 seconds to spare. His riding time was 6 hours 33 minutes 30 seconds. He covered 100 miles in 4 hours 47 minutes.
