EDUCATIONAL WEEK
A contingent of country girls, seventy in number, invaded Invercargill last Monday afternoon preparatory to beginning an educational week under the auspices of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, states the "Otago Daily Times." The visitors experienced a busy week —each morning, afternoon, and evening brought fresh interest, excitement, and pleasure. Discussing the week's itinerary the provincial secretary (Miss M. Robbie, of Woodlands) said that the programme, with one or two exceptions, was similar to last year's. The girls specially appreciated the privilege of inspecting Kew Hospital—they were greatly impressed with its size and marvellous appointments. The visit to the Southland Laundry also proved interesting and instructive. The week had passed all too quickly and they had thoroughly enjoyed their stay. There were fifty-two branches of the Women's Division in Southland—and two girls were selected from each branch to represent their district. As a result of a remit from a provincial branch a Married Women's Week would be organised in August. The inauguration would attract much interest and probably sister branches throughout the Dominion would follow Southland's lead.
