DEPARTMENTAL COSTS RISE IN TAXATION The ordinary ravenue account ol the Consolidated Fund for the financial year ended March 31 last discloses an increase in taxation £5,384,429 10s 3d over the previous year. • The figures for the last financial, year (the" figures for the previous year being given in parentheses) are as follows:—Customs. £9,499,254 I £8,161.----161); beer duty, £841,584 (£715,042); sales tax, £3,044,613 (£2.4fi'2,601)J film-hire tax, £72,209 (£60,657); goldexport duty, £108,793 (£106,976); highways, £2,503,111 (£2,124,130); stamp and death duties, £3,162,503 (£2,841,766); land tax, £1,407,877 (£458,872);, income tax, £6,618,718 (£4,581,328); miscellaneous, £42,183 (£43,881). ... The ordinary revenue account also benefited from ' interest payments amounting to £2,387,118, and revenua receipts totalling £1,819,225. The receipts for this account totalled i £31626 823, as against £26,377,263. The details of the net expenditure for the years ended March 31 under the headings of annual'appropriation! are as follows:—
