Special forecast for Wellington:—
Moderate to strong southerly lo south-easterly winds. ' Weather cold and changeable with occasional showers.
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing twenty-four hours, is for moderate to strong south-westerly to southerly winds, reaching gale force in exposed positions on the east coast of the South Island, and freshening about and to the north of Cook Strait. While mainly'fair to fine on the west, coast of the South Island, the weather elsewhere will still be cold and rather changeable, with occasional showers more especially on the East Coast and in the far north. Later, more general rain is likely in the far north. Owing to pressure remaining relatively low to the east oi the Dominion, and to the passage of several slight secondaries across the South Island, the weekend weather was very cold and changeable. Moderate to strong south-westerly to southerly winds predominated, and there were showers at times in most districts. Snow fell on the ranges and there was hail in places, while on Saturday there were, sonw light tails- of snow on some lower levels in the central districts and in the South Island. On Sunday, however, the conditions moderated somewhat, the wind about and to the south of Cook Strait turning to the west or north-west. But since last night winds have gone back to the south generally, and scattered showers were reported this morning, mainly from eastern districts and from the far north and south. Auckland's weather during the weeKend Was pold, unsettled, and showery, with a moderate to strong wind from the south-west. Nine points of rain were recorded. The weather this morning in the northern city was fair. It was fine in Wellington on Saturday morning, with a light north-west-erly wind. The wind in the afternoon, however, changed to a light southerly and rain fell, with snow at times. Three hours of bright sunshine were recorded on Saturday and seven points of rain. Sunday's weather was sunny, but cold, 7.3 hours of bright sunshine being recorded. A west-south-west breeze prevailed in the morning and a northerly breeze in the afternoon, but at 3.20 a.m. today a fresh southerly sprang up and a trace of rain fell at 6.20 a.m. .
.Christchurch had a cold south-west-erly wind all day on Saturday, but there was a considerable amount of sunshine, especially in the morning. Sunday was fine and sunny with a light south-westerly breeze, but the wind freshened last night and some light rain fell. The weather this morning was squally and it was raining, three points having been recorded up to 9 a.m.
Dunedin's weather on Saturday was stormy, and p. gale from the west-south-west was accompanied by frequent snow and hail squalls, the total amount of precipitation being 57 points. Sunday morning was fine with a cold south-westerly wind, but the afternoon was overcast and showers fell later. At 9 a.m. today a squally southerly wind was blowing and the weather was showery, a further 21 points of rain having been recorded up to that hour.
