BEN BRAGGIE JUST FAILS
■ A bold bid by Ben.Braggie to carry his; welterweight out in; front all the way in the Winter pats failed by a neck when Gold Mission challenged in the straight. It was a fine, effort nevertheless, as the Gascony gelding had not raced since Easter and the ground was rather tricky . to. handle Gold Mission, after beginning, with Bell Braggie, dropped in behind at the end.of a furlong, but she. was moving up again nearing the straight, and she came up on the inner of the hang ng Tonnerre with her claim against the favourite. This six-year-old daughter Of Royal Divorce is at her best under winter conditions, and recently she was a winner over seven furlongs at Hawera, though between her latest stresses she was beaten out of a CUVldenf at Foxton. She has done aU her racin" in the colours of Mr. G. A, .Downs, of Waverley, for whom she is now trained at Waverley by G. A. RNottunv after losing ground at the start was finishing .on fairly well a couple of lengths, away. .V Tonnerre joined Ben Braggie early, but was tiring when he ran wide entering, the Straight. Hunting.Lodge made only a moderate showing. Solaria was badly 'eft after giving trouble at the start.
