OBITUARY
MR. GEORGE BLACK
Mr. George Black, superintendent in New Zealand for Dalgety and Company, Ltd., died suddenly at his home, 7 Easdale Street, Wellington, last night at the age.of 59. Mr. Black had not enjoyed good health for some time, and his death followed his return from a visit to Napier made at the weekend.
The late Mr. Black had been in the service of Dalgety's for over thirty years. He was formerly in the Invercargill office, and in 1916 became submanager at Dunedin and manager in 1034. Upon Mr. W. S. Bennett's appointment as superintendent for the firm in Australia, in December, 1935, Mr. Black succeeded him as New Zealand superintendent.
Mr. Black was on the directorate of a number of concerns both in Wellington and in the South Island. He was acting chairman of directors of the Gear Meat Co., Ltd., and a director o£ Donaghy's Rope and Twine Company, the National Mutual Life Association, and the Royal Exchange Assurance Company, Ltd. He was also a member of the New Zealand Wool CommiUee.
Mrs. Black predeceased her husband about two years ago. There is one daughter, Miss Betty Black.
The funeral is to take place at Dunedin.
