ST. GEORGE V. PETONE
Despita the wintry conditions and the greasy ball, the game between St. George and Petone opened at a fast pace, both sides giving the ball plenty of air. A fast breakaway by Kyle put Petone in a good position, but an infringement spoiled the movement on the St. George line. St. George came back and from a forward rush Swanberg received and scored in the corner. The kick missed. St. George 3. Petone 0. St. George returned to the attack, but Selwood (Petone) picked up nicely [rom the opposing forwards' feet. A bad clearing kick by the Petone fullback put the ball into the hands of Moisley, who had three men outside him and a clear field. St. George o Petone 0. Another breakaway by the St. George back line was stopped by Parr.ish, who intercepted nicely. Petone now took a hand, and a good run by O'Connor and Parrish put St. Georgs ir trouble, but a forward pass spoilt the movement. Half-time went with the score: St. George 6, Petone 0. The second spell developed into a hard forward struggle, with both packs rucking well. From a scrum St. George secured, the ball travelling right along the back line for Cook to score in the corner. Again the kick missed. St. George 9, Petone 0. A penalty cost Petone another two points. Spencer converting with a good kick. St. George 11, Petone 0. Play became somewhat scrappy owing to the conditions. Scorringe picked up well and put St. George in trouble, but his pass went astray. The game ended with 3t. George attacking.
